In June, 2013 my adorable Brussels Griffon (Shortie) now 8 was diagnosed with Intervertebral Disk Disease.  This seemed to be an overnight condition with no forewarning.  Shortie was in a lot of pain, barely ate and certainly could not do the things she could do before.  She was prescribed a steroid and some pain medication; I had to keep her in a comfortable pen for three weeks on complete bed rest.  I've had a Pet Insurance policy through Healthy Paws since 2010, this is the first time I had to submit a claim.  I started to explore the policy and found that it covers alternative therapies such as Acupuncture.  I honestly would not have known that acupuncture is available for animals.  Through my research I found Dr. Becky Fraser to treat Shortie with acupuncture sessions.  She has had five treatments and is responding extremely well.  She is no longer dragging her back leg during normal activities.  I have now transferred Shortie to Dr. Fraser for well and sick care going forward.  I would highly recommend acupuncture treatment if your pet is sick or injured, and I would recommend Dr Fraser to administer the treatment.  She is a caring vet who not only comforts the animal, but does a very good job of explaining all aspects of the disease or injury to help the owner understand how acupuncture will help.  I am a believer now based on Shortie's recovery.  Thank you Dr. Fraser for your help, Shortie is acting like herself again.
